Letter: Herrera Beutler helps region

I take issue with Opinion Editor Greg Jayne saying Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler’s main policy “is a losing one” (“Will blue wave wash over 3rd District in November?” Aug. 12, The Columbian). I watched the debate between Carolyn Long and Herrera Beutler posted by The Columbian. While Long plus the editorial board went after her, Herrera Beutler admirably defended her vote to cut taxes by $2,300 per family and stimulate economic activity that we haven’t seen in decades.

And “main policy?” If Jayne were honest, he would also focus on Herrera Beutler’s work against tolling that unfairly impacts Vancouver residents, predation on the Columbia River, and working to make sure health care is affordable.

Jayne may like the government managing your money more than you do, but he shouldn’t ignore Herrera Beutler’s focus on helping Southwest Washington in many ways.
