A Battle Ground woman arrested after allegedly shooting her boyfriend’s brother in the foot appeared Monday in Clark County Superior Court.

Wendy L. Hamann, 60, was arrested Friday afternoon at her home northeast of Battle Ground Lake on suspicion of first-degree assault.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Clark County sheriff’s deputies were called to 20309 N.E. 279th Ave., after Adam Johnson reported someone shot him in the foot. Johnson’s brother, Arvo Johnson, lives next door with his girlfriend, Hamann.

Recently, Arvo Johnson told Adam Johnson to stay away from their home due to “unspecified problems,” according to court records.

On Friday, Adam Johnson said he went to his brother’s and Hamann’s house to get something Hamann had borrowed the week before. When he arrived, Hamann told him to leave, but he refused, the affidavit says.

Hamann called for Arvo Johnson, who later told deputies he was in the bathroom and could hear his girlfriend and brother arguing. He came out when Hamann called for him, then ordered his brother to leave, court records state.

Adam Johnson started walking toward his car and off the property. As he was leaving, he said Hamann appeared with a handgun. Adam Johnson told deputies she fired a round into the air, then at him. He drove home, where he later showed a deputy a bleeding, bullet-sized hole in his right foot, according to the affidavit.

Hamann told a deputy she has anger issues, which cause her to “black out.” Her argument with Adam Johnson grew heated, she said, and she recalled getting Arvo Johnson’s handgun. She said she didn’t remember what happened after, the affidavit says.

Arvo Johnson said he heard the two gunshots; he had gone to shower after telling his brother to leave. He came back outside after hearing the shots and saw Hamann holding his handgun. He told deputies he asked her why she shot the gun, and she said it was because Adam Johnson was yelling at her, according to court records.

Hamann’s bail was set at $150,000. Her next court date is scheduled for Sept. 7.
