Investigators with the Vancouver Police Department Traffic Unit are continuing to look into a Monday morning crash involving a police vehicle and bicyclist.

The bicyclist was identified as 64-year-old Ray Glur, who was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for treatment of serious but not life-threatening injuries. A PeaceHealth spokesman said Wednesday that Glur remains at the hospital in satisfactory condition.

The officer behind the wheel was identified as Cpl. Jeremy Free. Police department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said in an email Wednesday that Free remains on duty.

“The traffic investigation is still ongoing, and once that is completed, there will be an internal investigation,” she said.

Police previously reported that the crash happened about 5:15 a.m. in the area of East Evergreen and Grand boulevards, on the edge of the Hudson’s Bay neighborhood.

Free was responding to a call about a vehicle submerged in the Columbia River near Marine Park, Kapp said, when the police vehicle struck Glur.

Initial investigative details indicate that Glur was westbound on Evergreen Boulevard while Free was southbound on Grand Boulevard.

Free had his vehicle’s emergency lights activated but not his sirens, Kapp said.

Two other officers were following behind Free in their vehicles; all had been dispatched to the call about the submerged vehicle. The three officers stopped and rendered aid to Glur, and one of them also started traffic control, Kapp said.

The crash closed the intersection for about 10 hours Monday.
