Boys basketball: Columbia River 57, Prairie 39

Columbia River’s size could not be matched.

The Chieftains stuck 6-foot-5 wing Jack Armstrong on all-region guard Kam Osborn, and held him without a field goal. Evan Dirksen led the way with a game-high 24 points for the Chieftains.

Osborn left the third quarter with a tweaked back, which he first aggravated in Tacoma last weekend.

“Any time you can get a win against Prairie you feel pretty good,” River coach David Long said. “They have a lot of success in that program over the years.”

Prairie was paced by 19 points from junior Aidan Fraly.

“This is one of the most athletic teams I’ve seen at Prairie,” Long said. “We just tried to keep the rest of them from getting to the rim.”

Dirksen also had nine rebounds and two blocks, which Long credited as a nod to his hard work. The senior led the Chieftains in scoring over summer ball.
