The sacrifice of U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Jason Peto, killed in action in 2010, will be honored on the eighth anniversary of his death at the Clark County War Memorial at the Fort Vancouver Barracks.

The Community Military Appreciation Committee is asking the Patriot Guard Riders and members of the community to stand in remembrance on Friday. Scholl was killed by an IED explosion Dec. 7, 2010, in Sangin, Afghanistan.

The memorial is by the Community Military Appreciation Committee honoring local military members killed in action. It plans to hold such ceremonies every three years — on the anniversary of the military member’s death — and encourages participation from the family and community.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive around 11:30 a.m. at Fort Vancouver Way and McClellan Drive. The ceremony will commence at noon and last about half an hour.
