A fire in a motor home Tuesday night at a freeway rest area displaced three adults and a pet living inside.

Firefighters from Clark County Fire & Rescue were called around 7:30 p.m. to a fire in a large motor home parked at the southbound Gee Creek rest area off Interstate 5, according to district Chief John Nohr.

They found a rapidly burning motor home and a couple of occupants.

Ambulances were called to check on two occupants who appeared to exhibit smoke-inhalation symptoms after going back inside, Nohr said, but they declined treatment and were not transported.

Nohr said firefighters had to call for a 2,500-gallon water tender to help douse the flames. The rest area has hydrants, he said, but the motor home’s positioning in the lot prevented firefighters from using them.

The Red Cross said it responded to help the three people and animal with temporary housing and other immediate basic needs.
