Letter: Reject Kalama methanol plant

By Jean M. Avery, Vancouver
Published: December 6, 2018, 6:00am

A huge methanol refinery is proposed for Kalama and we need to say “no,” because it will pollute our air, risk our waterways, and accelerate climate change.

In this time of extreme weather events and dire reports on the fragility of our climate, Washington certainly does not need a methanol refinery. It makes no sense to encourage more fracking, more pipelines, more greenhouse gas emissions, and around-the-world shipping to foreign ports — all to produce more plastics.

To protect our health and environment, we must say no to the methanol refinery. Please attend the hearing, 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Cowlitz County Event Center in Longview. Also, please submit a comment online at KalamaMfgFacilitySEPA.com.
