Local connections power Lower Columbia past Clark, 97-72

Clark women beat South Puget Sound for first win of season

Prairie High grad Seth Hall and Skyview grad Samaad Hector combined for 52 points as the Lower Columbia men’s basketball team handed Clark College its first loss of the season, 97-72 on Saturday at the O’Connell Sports Center in Vancouver.

Hall scored a game-high 27 points on 10 of 12 shooting, 5 of 6 from behind the 3-point arc.

Hector had 25 points on 9 of 13 shooting, 3 of 4 on 3-pointers. He also had a team-high 11 rebounds.

Clark (6-1) was led by Parker Gaddis’ 23 points. Sam Scarpelli had 20 points and five assists, and Tyler Fernstrom had 10 points.

Clark’s largest lead of the game was six points at 12:16 in the first half. Lower Columbia (6-2) led by as many at 28 points late in the second half.

The Lower Columbia bench outscored Clark 43-15 and the Red Devils also had a 38-29 rebounding advantage.

Six days ago, Clark beat LCC 73-64 at Spokane with a 47-33 rebound margin.

Next for Clark is a three-game crossover at Bellingham that begins Friday against Whatcom. Clark then plays Highline and Big Bend.

WOMEN: CLARK 93, SOUTH PUGET SOUND 59 — The Penguins notched their first victory of the season, leading wire-to-wire.

Clark (1-7) led by as many at 45 points in the third quarter at 74-29.

Five Clark players scored in double figures led by Jodi Thomasian’s 21 points. Alexus Hunter had 18 points and seven assists, Mahrysa Thomas had 15 points and 14 rebounds, La Center grad Taylor Mills had 14 points and nine rebounds, and Hockinson grad Payton Wangler had 13 points and five assists.

Clark next hosts a crossover tournament beginning Friday with Shoreline, Grays Harbor and Walla Walla. The Penguins open against Walla Walla at 7 p.m. Friday, then play Shoreline at 4 p.m. Dec. 15, and finish with Grays Harbor at 3 p.m. Dec. 16.
