Letter: Era comes to end in Vancouver

A news article in The Columbian announced: “After 7 decades, a home furnishings era ends,” (Oct. 27). Mattress Factory Outlet owner, Jeff Weinstein, and his late father, Allan Weinstein, are pure history in Vancouver and Clark County.

From the time my husband and I moved to Clark County and opened our medical office in 1965, we shopped at Vancouver Furniture, which had opened 1946 and closed in 1996. The Weinsteins opened Mattress Factory Outlet in 1994. We became friends with the Weinsteins at the stores, and also at the Portland Trail Blazers games where Jeff was statistician from 1971 to 1986. We were all together at the Blazers’ championship game in 1977. At the store, we were always greeted with a smile and real customer service. We could talk furniture and sports over mattresses and it was a joy.

I was honored to do a singing commercial for the furniture store years ago. They did great advertising and we referred many a customer to Mattress Factory Outlet.

Yes, business has changed but it was always a delight to go to the store and see Jeff and remember his parents. We shall all say to these dear folks, “thank you for these wonderful business years.”
