Carter Monda hit five 3-pointers, but his last attempt rimmed out in the closing seconds as the Plainsmen dropped a tough one at the Canby (Ore.) Holiday Tournament.

“We came out flat, low energy, and they took it to us,” Evergreen coach Brett Henry said. “We thought we were better, and they just smacked us in the mouth.

“But we came out with great energy in the third quarter.”

Evergreen turned a 32-23 halftime deficit into a 43-38 lead after three quarters.

Lakeridge chipped away at the Plainsmen’s lead until Carter Larrance hit a six-footer with 10 seconds to go, giving the Pacers a 52-50 lead.

Evergreen found Monda open for a good look at a 3-pointer with four seconds left, but it was off the mark. Mario Herring’s rebound putback also missed.

Monda finished with a game-high 23 points.

Evergreen will face Sheldon at 3 p.m. Friday in the consolation bracket.
