Washougal girls wrestling wins River Rumble

Washougal freshman Lacey Klopman pinned her three opponents as the Panthers won the Washougal Women’s River Rumble on Friday at Washougal High School.

Washougal held off Union 36-34 for first place in the medal round.

Twelve teams were represented at the event with two all-star teams. All-stars 1 was made up of wrestlers from R.A. Long, Ridgefield and Rochester, and All-stars 2 also had R.A. Long members plus Seton Catholic, Stevenson and Columbia of White Salmon wrestlers.

Washougal defeated All-Stars No. 2 42-30 in the first round. Emily Eakins pinned Seton’s Marzita Chavez-Anguiano in the last match of the dual to help seal the win.

The Panthers then beat Kelso 50-24 in the second round. Klopman pinned Kelso’s Kirsten Spaulding in that match.

Against Union, the Panthers were ahead 24-6 before the Titans earned a decision. Klopman added another pin in that match.

Centralia defeated Kelso 54-24 for third place, and Hillsboro (Ore.) beat Skyview 36-30 for seventh place.
