On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded $59.6 million to organizations aiming to end homelessness in Washington, including $1.98 million for projects in Clark County.

The federal agency’s award is part of the Continuum of Care program, the largest program granting money to local governments, homeless advocates and service providers.

“HUD is continuing to challenge state and local planners to support higher performing local programs that have proven most effective in meeting their local challenges, often shifting funds from existing projects to create new ones that will have a more substantial and lasting impact on reducing homelessness,” a news release said.
