Firefighters pulled an injured worker out of a 20-foot hole Monday afternoon at a construction site near Ridgefield.

A crew member working on a sewer project related to the construction of a subdivision south of Ridgefield was down in a deep hole when a cement cylinder fell on him, Clark County Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Dawdy said.

“It shifted somehow, it struck him, so he has moderate injuries, and through the grace of God, the guy didn’t get injured worse,” Dawdy said.

Firefighters were called around 2:49 p.m., and when they arrived, one climbed into the trench to check on the worker.

The man suffered injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening, said Dawdy, who added that the hole was properly reinforced against collapse.

The site is near Northwest Hillhurst Road and Northwest 229th Street, at the planned Kennedy Farms subdivision, Dawdy said.

The firefighters at the work site called for more help, and the regional technical rescue team responded, Dawdy said.

By about 4 p.m., the firefighters pulled the man from the hole and transported him to a hospital.
