Ridgefield High School seniors awarded scholarships

RIDGEFIELD — Three Ridgefield High School seniors received Mary Christian Jones scholarships to help with college costs.

Adrienne Nicholson, who will attend Concorde Career College in Portland, received $1,500; Kelsi Morris, who plans to attend Boise State University in Idaho, received $750; and Rylee Melvin, who will attend Western Washington University in Bellingham, also received $750.

The scholarship fund was started in 1990 in honor of Mary (McRight) Christian Jones, who taught bookkeeping, typing and shorthand at Ridgefield High School in the 1940s.It benefits students pursuing a higher education at two- or four-year colleges or at a vocational school. Applicants must have at least a 3.3 grade point average, have attended Ridgefield High School for four semesters at graduation and demonstrate financial need.
