The Vancouver Cardinals and Vancouver Mavericks baseball teams came up one run short in their games Thursday at the Curt Daniels Invitational.

The Mavericks lost to Baden Baseball of Seattle 4-3 at Columbia River High School, while the Cardinals lost to Prospect United of Kent 3-2 at Concordia University in Portland.

Both Vancouver American Legion teams are 1-1 in pool play of the 12-team tournament that runs through Monday.

The Cardinals rallied in the top of the seventh for one run but left the bases loaded to end the game.

Tanner Jacques was 2 for 3, Quadrese Teague was 1 for 3 with a run-scoring double in the third inning, and Camden Ryder brought home the run in the seventh.

There was no rally for the Mavericks after Baden took the lead in the fifth inning. The Mavericks were retired in order in the last three innings.

Garrett Moen was 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Jordan Donohoe and Gideon Malychewski each drove in a run.

There are four games Friday and Saturday at both Columbia River and Concordia, and three on Sunday.
