A 39-year-old Orchards man who allegedly drove through a stop sign and T-boned another vehicle made an initial appearance Monday in Clark County Superior Court.

Bret Thomas McGuire appeared on suspicion of hit-and-run injury and driving under the influence.

Judge Daniel Stahnke set McGuire’s bail at $20,000. McGuire posted bond later in the day, court records show.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Friday, a Clark County sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to Northeast 99th Street and 152nd Avenue for a report of a two-vehicle crash involving injuries, according to a probable cause affidavit. Firefighters were already on scene speaking to the driver of the vehicle that was T-boned.

But before the deputy arrived, McGuire allegedly drove away. The officer was close enough to reach the area and spot McGuire’s vehicle. A short chase ensued, ending when McGuire pulled into the driveway of his Orchards-area home and exited the vehicle, according to the affidavit.

The deputy noted in the affidavit that the front end of McGuire’s vehicle was smashed in, and the suspect had slurred speech and watery, bloodshot eyes. McGuire asked for a lawyer and refused to provide a breath sample, court records say.

An arraignment is set for July 27.
