Columbia River High School student receives scholarship to spend year in India

Lake Shore — Columbia River High School student Andrew Douglas, 15, received a language scholarship from the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to study Hindi for a year in Indore, India. He received the National Security Language Initiative for Youth scholarship and was one of roughly 670 students selected out of more than 3,300 applicants who will study Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Persian, Indonesian or Russian overseas this school year. He will receive formal language instruction, live with a host family and experience the local culture as part of an immersion environment.
