A 62-year-old man appeared in Clark County Superior Court on Wednesday facing allegations he stole $7,500 from a woman who needed her roof repaired — more than four years ago.

The probable cause affidavit against John Kenneth Wilson was originally filed in July 2014. It says his alleged crime was committed between March and April 2014.

Court records show Wilson was arrested Wednesday on a warrant issued in July 2015.

Judge Gregory Gonzales granted Wilson supervised release and set a trial for October.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Wilson accepted a personal check from a woman who needed the roof of her mobile home fixed, a job Wilson had learned about through an acquaintance.

The agreed upon price for the work was $15,000, and Wilson convinced the woman to hand over half that amount as a down payment, according to the affidavit.

The victim canceled the check later that night when her son informed her she’d paid too much, but Wilson had already cashed the check, according to the affidavit.

Clark County deputies tried to track down Wilson, but he disappeared. “It is believed that John has traveled north and may be in the Port Angeles, Wash., area,” the affidavit says.

Release information from Clark County Corrections says Wilson now lives in Portland.
