PORTLAND — One person was arrested, another detained and a third person seriously injured Wednesday after police say a driver with warrants for his arrest crashed into two cars and then into a Beaverton pond after a police chase.

The driver, 26-year-old Chase Larrazabal, had three outstanding arrest warrants for misdemeanor theft in Washington County and had eluded officers who tried to pull him over in his Mercury Mountaineer last week, said Officer Jeremy Shaw, a Beaverton police spokesman.

Someone called 911 around 2:15 p.m. and reported seeing a suspicious person near Southwest Erickson Avenue and Larson Street and provided information on an SUV in the area that appeared to be associated with the person, Shaw said. When officers arrived, they determined it was SUV the same one from the week before, which is registered to Larrazabal, according to Shaw.

The suspect drove away when police arrived, nearly hit three patrol cars, struck a red Lexus and a grey Toyota Tacoma and went into a pond near Southwest Murray Boulevard and Teal Boulevard, Shaw said. Larrazabal and his 35-year-old female passenger were taken into custody.

Both people were taken to a hospital for evaluations. Larrazabal will be booked in jail, and an investigation is ongoing to determine if his passenger will face any accusations, Shaw said.

The collisions seriously injured a 66-year-old woman inside the Lexus and one person inside the Toyota was taken to a hospital with apparent minor injuries, officials said.
