Letter: Elect Congress to keep Trump in line

How much longer can we put up with our president strutting his ignorance and racism on the world stage? President Trump is an embarrassment to everything for which our great country has always stood. His recent open contempt of the NATO alliance was a prime example.

Most egregious of all is his worship of authoritarians like North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin, about whom he never utters a negative word, while routinely insulting loyal allies like Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, British Prime Minister Theresa May and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. We see North Korean citizens forced under threat of death to openly worship their “dear leader,” then Trump states he would like “his people” to treat him that way.

In just under 600 days, Trump has begun to aid and abet the erosion of our democracy while a Republican Congress openly permits it. Americans must wake up, take to the streets, register voters and make their voices heard. Our freedoms are far too precious to allow a two-bit real estate huckster to destroy them.

In the upcoming midterm election, I urge conscionable citizens of both parties to elect a Congress that will bring this appalling president into line.
