PORTLAND — A Portland youth soccer coach pleaded no contest Wednesday to accusations of sex abuse and using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct.

Luis Trybom, 39, originally faced 35 charges in two separate cases that included allegations of online sexual corruption of a child, encouraging child sexual abuse and rape, but he reached a plea deal for five counts of sex abuse and three for using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct with the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.

The initial charges involved a total of nine alleged victims, including 2 underage girls, Multnomah County District Attorney spokesman Brent Weisberg said. None were associated with Trybom’s Portland Soccer Academy, Weisberg said.

Trybom was the director of the soccer training organization for young athletes. Weisberg said police are still investigating, including talking to players coached by Trybom, he said.

Trybom was added to the sex offender registry after he pleaded guilty to third-degree sex abuse in 1997. He attacked a 16-year-old classmate while the two were gathering costumes for a school play, according to court documents.

Trybom is being held in Multnomah County Jail. He is set to be sentenced in September.
