How is it possible that a U.S. president deliberately antagonizes our allied nations and then sucks up to the enemies of our country without a revolt in Congress? Has the Republican Party forgotten its history since 1945? From President Eisenhower, through to the presidents Ronald Reagan (who helped bring down the Soviet Union) and George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, Republicans and Democrats were united in strengthening the U.S. with the help of its allies. Now our neighbors, Canada and Mexico, our European allies in NATO, all who fought with us, are (pick your derogatory term of the day). Dictators are now our best friends — North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, Russia’s Vladimir Putin and China’s Xi Jinping.
Our free press is also under attack for daring to speak out. And the Republican-controlled Congress rubber-stamps this attitude and resulting policies. How can that happen in our country? How can any sane person even think to vote Republican in these days?
Disclosure: I was born in Germany, grew up and was educated in Canada, worked all my life in U.S. industries. I am a U.S. citizen and am now 80. I will never again vote Republican.
