Washington Timbers U16 girls soccer team finishes 2nd at regional

Vancouver team was 4-2 in matches played at Honolulu

The Washington Timbers 02 Red 1 girls soccer team finished second at the 2018 U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships on Sunday in Honolulu.

The Timbers, an under-16 squad based in Vancouver, were beat 2-0 by a team from South Jordan, Utah, in the final match.

This was a rematch of a preliminary game played Wednesday, also won by the Utah squad, 6-0.

The Timbers were 4-2 at the 16-team age group regional.

The Timbers’ forward Olivia Fothergill topped the 16U girls scorers with six goals in the tournament. Teammate Elizabeth Parker, also a forward, was also in the top 10 with three goals.

Other members of the Timbers included defenders Mackenzie Armstrong, Camille Darland, Alexis Sadler, Holly Schmitz, Chloe Unflat; midfielders Maya Davis, Carlson Fields, Aanya Friedeman, Margaret McBroom, Avery Smith, Lauren Snedeker; forwards Paige German, Chloe Harris; and goalkeepers Carson Thomson-Terrel and Darien Walton. They are coached by Peter Pickett.

The Utah team advances to the national tournament in Frisco, Texas, next month.
