Drivers following too closely caused a chain-reaction, three-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on state Highway 14, and one of the involved cars was struck twice.

A Chevrolet Impala driven by 43-year-old Anthony T. Grima of Washougal had stopped in the right lane of traffic on the highway when a Subaru Crosstrek struck the sedan from behind, according to a Washington State Patrol crash memo.

Then, Seattle resident Dennis C. Shoup, 29, drove into the back of the Subaru, which was pushed once more into Grima’s car, troopers said.

Despite being hit two times from behind, Grima reportedly was uninjured.

The driver of the Crosstrek, 26-year-old Kristen M. Hay of Washougal, suffered unspecified injuries and was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. A trooper drove Shoup to the hospital, according to the memo.

Troopers said Hay and Shoup had been following too closely and caused the crash; they were cited.

Both were treated and released from PeaceHealth Southwest, according to a hospital spokesman.
