Emergency responders helped a family of four following a Tuesday night residential fire in Vancouver’s Minnehaha area.

The American Red Cross responded about 10:40 p.m. to the 5200 block of Northeast 58th Street.

According to emergency dispatch logs, Vancouver Fire Department firefighters were dispatched to a residence on the street about an hour and a half earlier.

Clark County sheriff’s deputies and an ambulance also went to the home, according to the logs.

The crew of the first engine to arrive at the scene spotted smoke coming from the back of the home, Capt. Ryan Egan said.

Fire damaged the kitchen, but the flames were extinguished within five minutes, Egan said. The Clark County Fire Marshal is investigating how the fire started.

The fire affected three adults and a child, according to a Red Cross press release.
