Seven displaced when fire damages mobile home in Vancouver

Seven people were displaced early Sunday when a crawl space fire damaged a mobile home in Vancouver’s Sifton neighborhood, according to the Vancouver Fire Department.

Fire crews were dispatched at 12:53 a.m. to a double wide mobile home at 14608 N.E. 90th St., according to firefighter-paramedic Kevin Stromberg. He said crews from the Vancouver Fire Department arrived at 1:01 a.m. to find smoke coming out of the crawl space area under the mobile home.

Further investigation found fire spreading through the crawl space and into the ducting in the mobile home’s heating system, Stromberg said.

“Unfortunately, to get to the ducting system, we did have to make some holes in the floor of the structure to put the fire out, so there was damage to the structure,” he said. “Also, with the smoke coming into the structure, they also had significant smoke damage to the structure, as well.”

The fire was brought under control in 20 minutes.

Six adults, one child and two pets were displaced by the fire, according to the American Red Cross, which reported that its volunteers provided assistance, including temporary housing, food, clothing, comfort kits and information about recovery services.

The family had evacuated safely before firefighters arrived, and no injuries were reported, according to Stromberg. He said 21 firefighters were on scene, and the Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.
