The heat eased on Sunday but what will the workweek hold? Check our local weather coverage.

In case you missed it, here are some of the top stories of the weekend:

Deputies investigate fatal crash near Columbia River High School

One person was killed and two others critically hurt in a two-vehicle crash in front of Columbia River High School in Vancouver Tuesday morning.

Police and ambulances were dispatched to the high school, at 800 N.W. 99th St., around 10:10 a.m. One person was killed, according to a Clark County sheriff’s deputy at the scene.

Sgt. Fred Neiman said a Subaru Legacy was pulling out of the high school parking lot, near the football field, when it hit a westbound, gray Volkswagen Jetta.

Woman accused of stabbing boyfriend with samurai sword appears in court

A Camas woman told police she tried to kill her boyfriend with a samurai sword early Saturday morning because she believed he was cheating on her.

Court records say Emily Javier, 30, allegedly told investigators she specifically purchased the sword and made deliberate plans to kill her boyfriend of two years, 29-year-old Alex Lovell.

She hid his cellphone so he couldn’t call for help, attacked him in his sleep, and then called 911 only after she believed he was dead, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in the case.

Big problem with tiny house on wheels

Like many young couples in Vancouver, Ethan and Morgan Woltersdorf set out to find a home only to discover most apartments were priced just outside of their reach.

So they decided to shrink their expectations.

About seven months ago, newlyweds Ethan, 21, and Morgan, 22, moved into a 300-square-foot tiny house on wheels. The cozy cabin is built on a converted manufactured home trailer and parked on a family member’s property in Salmon Creek. For $20,000 — and assists from relatives and friends who are engineers and construction workers — the pair became homeowners.

The Waterfront Vancouver’s first tenant takes its place

The Waterfront Vancouver had two touchstones on Monday: it welcomed its first tenant and incurred its first delay.

Phase one of the 21-block redevelopment was expected to finish by July when it opened its doors to two restaurant buildings, a plaza and a 90-foot cable-stayed pier. But Barry Cain, whose company Gramor Development is leading the $1.5 billion overhaul, said they will miss that deadline by a month.

Casting calls go out locally for 2 TV shows

When our hero is “banished to the boonies,” that means Ridgefield.

Well, it actually means the beautiful Oregon Coast. That’s where a new ABC police drama, “Staties,” will be set, and a casting call just went out for “background talent” interested in working on filming March 12-28 in Manzanita, Ore., and other sites in the Portland-metro area. PDXtras, a Portland talent scout, is managing the casting call.
