Letter: Fear shouldn’t dictate public policy

It’s ironic that one of the myriad anti-gun laws proposed by the children leading the recent pep assembly-style rallies was to raise the gun ownership age to 21 — essentially admitting that they themselves are too irresponsible to own a firearm, yet mature enough to dictate public policy.

The same generation that was eating laundry detergent a couple of months ago have apparently blossomed into constitutional scholars capable of defining my Second Amendment rights. Unfortunately, the adults encouraging these children are teaching the next generation that reactionary politics fueled by fear is both admirable and effective.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
