Letter: Trump misfires, as usual

Recently, the problem of gun control and curbing the slaughter has risen, and it is quite interesting how President Donald Trump has developed a solution to the problem.

One of his solutions is to arm teachers at schools. However, Trump has no idea how his solution would really work. If he had spent some time in active military instead of dodging the draft, then he would have a better understanding of how small arms fire is used in combat.

For example, the element of surprise is essential to the success of a small arms attack. When the intruder in a school bursts into a classroom with a gun and intent to kill, he has that element of surprise in his favor. A teacher who is caught in a situation of trying to protect his or her class with a gun is at a huge disadvantage. Therefore, the attacker/murderer would be able to shoot the teacher a dozen times before that teacher could defend the classroom and/or her or himself.

As usual, Trump has shown once again that he doesn’t know what he is talking about.
