A collision on southbound Interstate 5 in Vancouver Saturday afternoon sent a 3-year-old to the hospital when a driver allegedly under the influence of alcohol failed to stop in time, according to a report from the Washington State Patrol.

The state patrol responded to the collision on I-5 near Northeast 63rd Street about 12:20 p.m. after two vehicles slowed for traffic and the driver of a 2007 Kia sedan failed to stop in time and rear-ended the 2007 Acura sedan stopped on the roadway, according to reports. The Acura was pushed onto the left shoulder and and struck a concrete barrier.

The state patrol cited Austin Waddle, 20, of Vancouver, who was driving the Kia, for driving while under the influence of alcohol and inattention. The Kia was deemed a total loss.

Three of the four people in the Acura were injured. The driver, Jennifer Bryson, 41, of Vancouver, and a 3-year-old passenger were taken to Legacy Hospital in Salmon Creek to be treated for their injuries. The other two passengers, Miah Harrison, 22, of Gresham, and Dakota Shorak, 21, of Vancouver, were not injured. All four were wearing seat belts.

The condition of Bryson and the young passenger are unknown at this time.
