Vancouver – The Vancouver Bike Club will host its annual Ride of Silence at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The Ride of Silence is a worldwide observance honoring bicyclists who’ve died or been injured in traffic. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2015 there were 818 bicycle-versus-car crashes that killed the cyclist; there were many thousands more bicyclist injuries.
The Vancouver Ride of Silence will start at Bike Clark County’s “Hub” bike shop at 1604 Main St. in downtown Vancouver. Registration is not required, but please show up 15 minutes early for safety and other announcements. Given the nature of this ride, it’s never been more important to wear a helmet and make sure you’ve got lights, reflectors and other basic safety equipment.
The ride will be slow-paced and completely silent. The route is eight miles long and with moderate hills; it’ll go past the sites where cyclists Gordon Patterson and Benjamin Fulwiler died in collisions. Please wear a black or red arm band if you can.
