La Center’s Ungs, Grotte qualify for state swim finals

La Center’s Bryanna Ungs and Hailey Grotte put themselves in position to contend for state titles Friday at the 2A-1A state swimming championships at Federal Way.

Grotte was the No. 2 qualifier for Saturday’s finals in the 100-yard freestyle and No. 3 in the 50 freestyle. Grotte swam the 100 free in 52.74 seconds and the 50 free in 24.23 seconds.

Her teammate Ungs was the No. 2 qualifier in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.96 and the No. 5 qualifier in the 200 individual medley (2:14.57).

In the 4A state meet, Camas’ Paeton Lesser was the lone local swimmer to advance to Saturday’s championship finals. Lesser qualified No. 8 in the 100 freestyle in 54.36 seconds. Camas’ Irelyn McGee qualified No. 5 in the diving competition with 232.30 points.

No locals advanced to the championship finals in the 3A state meet.
