I’m responding to the Nov. 8 letter “Don’t buy stolen valor” (Our Readers’ Views).
First, I appreciate the writer’s husband’s 20 years of service. The writer expresses that she is a “quiet” patriot, and that is fine, but I am proud to see folks properly flying our flag. It makes me feel good.
The writer also references a quote by Sen. Lloyd Bentsen in the 1988 vice presidential debate. Bentsen was referring to a person he knew, not a group (of patriots). How can this writer judge these individuals as not being patriots? Because they have two flags flying on the back of their pickup truck? And possibly because they’re ignorant about flag etiquette?
I like when I see someone flying our flag. I, too, served in the U.S. Army, 1964 to 1969, and had some buds that didn’t come back from ‘Nam. I’m a flag waver, and I am not a “quiet” patriot. I love to see lots of flags flying.
