Fishing report, Nov. 15

White sturgeon retention is closed from Buoy 10 upstream to the Oregon/Washington Border above McNary Dam, but remains an option for catch-and-release fishing.

Walleye fishing has slowed in the Columbia River.

Warm water fishing in local waters will continue to slow.

Angling for late-run coho salmon is still spotty in area rivers, and many of the fish are turning dark.

Holdover trout from spring plantings are biting in some local lakes. Trout plantings ahead of the Black Friday fishery should begin this week.

Salmon/Steelhead

The Columbia River mainstem, from the Buoy 10 at the mouth upstream to the Highway 395 Bridge at Pasco, is closed to angling for and retention of salmon and steelhead.

Grays River — Six bank anglers had no catch.

Elochoman River — Seven bank anglers kept one steelhead and released 15 coho.

Germany Creek — One bank angler had no catch.

Cowlitz River — I-5 Bridge downstream: 12 bank rods had no catch. One boat/one rod released two coho jacks.

Above the I-5 Bridge: 87 bank rods kept two coho jacks, one steelhead, five cutthroat and released 28 chinook, two coho, one coho jack and one steelhead. Eleven boats/24 rods kept four coho, 11 coho jacks, two steelhead and released five chinook jacks, one coho jack and three cutthroat.

Kalama River — Thirty-one bank anglers kept four coho, two steelhead and released two coho. Three boats/six rods released one chinook.

Lewis River — Twelve bank rods kept two chinook and released one coho. Seventeen boats/33 rods kept one chinook, three coho and one coho jack.

East Fork Lewis River — Four bank anglers released one coho and two steelhead.

Klickitat River — 73 bank anglers kept eight chinook, one chinook jack, 10 coho, three coho jacks and released one chinook and one coho jack.

Fishing Rule Changes

Grays River — Until further notice, release all Coho from the mouth upstream to the mouth of the South Fork.

West Fork Grays River — until further notice, from the mouth upstream: release all Coho.

Tilton River — The closed-waters area at the fish release site at Gust Backstrom Park has been reduced to approximately 100 feet at the posted signs.

Toutle River — Release all Chinook Until further notice, from the mouth upstream to the forks.

Lewis River — Release all Chinook and Coho from the mouth to Johnson Creek. Also for the Lewis River, the area between Johnson Creek and Colvin Creek is closed to all fishing.

Cedar Creek — Closed to all fishing from the mouth upstream to the Grist Mill Bridge: closed to all fishing.

Washougal River, including Camas Slough — Until further notice closed for Chinook retention from the mouth to the bridge at Salmon Falls.

Wind River — from the mouth to 400 feet downstream of Shipherd falls fish ladder. Anglers may now retain steelhead as listed in the pamphlet. Night closures are no longer in effect for steelhead fishing.

Drano Lake — Until further notice closed to all fishing in the waters downstream of markers on a point of land downstream and across from Little White Salmon National Fish Hatchery and upstream of the Highway 14 Bridge.

White Salmon River — Anglers may now retain steelhead from the mouth (BNSF Railroad Bridge) to the county road bridge below the former location of the powerhouse. Night closures are no longer in effect for steelhead or salmon fishing.

Sturgeon

Until further notice, white sturgeon open for catch and release fishing only. Fishing for sturgeon at night is closed.

Bonneville Pool — Weekly checking showed no catch for one boat (one angler).

The Dalles Pool — Weekly checking showed no catch for four boats (nine anglers).
