Vancouver’s annual Christmas tree lighting is set for Nov. 23 in Esther Short Park, but if you’d rather brighten your spirits pre-turkey, try ilani on Wednesday.

At 5 p.m. Nov. 21, ilani will host the second annual lighting of its 40-foot tree. A small group called the Dickens Carolers will provide festive sounds. The casino itself will provide warm beverages and holiday cookies.

The event is outside at the ilani valet entrance — that’s your first right turn off Cowlitz Way — but if there’s inclement weather, a tent will be set up for visitors. The address is 1 Cowlitz Way, Ridgefield.

Consider bringing a donation for the needy, too. Santa’s Posse, a charitable project of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, will be on hand accepting gifts of new winter coats, toys, non-perishable foods or cash. The holidays can be a difficult time of year for people in need, and Santa’s Posse has been helping make a difference for them for over 20 years.
