PORTLAND — UPS Inc., gearing up for the holiday shipping season, has 1,000 seasonal jobs available in Portland and Tualatin, Ore.

The jobs are among 100,000 UPS is filling across the country. The local positions are a combination of seasonal and permanent jobs and include 500 package handlers and 500 driver-helpers.

“Thirty-five percent of the people UPS hired in the past three years for seasonal package handler jobs stayed with the company on a permanent basis after the holidays,” the company says in a news release. And, “128,000 UPS employees established their careers at the company after starting as seasonal employees — that’s roughly one-third of the company’s U.S. workforce.”

UPS will host a hiring event 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at 6177 N. Basin Ave., Portland. For more information: www.upsjobs.com.
