La Center — The Lewis River Mobile Food Bank hosted a zombie-themed walk-a-thon fundraiser on Oct. 27 at Holley Park in La Center. While there was plenty of rain, the event raised $861 and collected 200 pounds of food in support of the food bank’s mission to help alleviate hunger in the local community. The walking path was decorated for Halloween and volunteers in costumes welcomed guests and helped them navigate the park. Boy Scout Troop No. 484 from La Center built and ran the Halloween-themed toilet paper toss, a Vancouver balloon artist made animals for kids, veterans Bill Malloy, Ron Graham and Jim Cheskawich from Woodland VFW Post No. 1927 judged a costume contest and the Junior Leos from La Center High School helped set up, monitor and clean up. Barn animals were also at the event to greet the walkers. Donations and more information about the food bank can be found at www.lewisrivermobilefoodbank.org.
