A police officer shot a man during a traffic stop early Thursday morning in Vancouver, according to the Vancouver Police Department. The man was not seriously wounded.

A police statement said the shooting occurred about 1:38 a.m. after an officer pulled over a stolen vehicle near the East Fourth Plain Boulevard ramp on southbound Interstate 5.

Details of what happened next were not released, other than that the man was shot and fled in the vehicle, according to the statement.

The vehicle was found abandoned near the intersection of East Fourth Plain Boulevard and E Street, and the man was found a short time later in a vehicle parked in the 400 block of East Fourth Plain Boulevard, the statement said.

Police identified the man as Demarcus D. Roundtree, 31. He was treated and released from a hospital and booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of being a fugitive from justice, possession of a stolen vehicle, driving while suspended and criminal impersonation.

The officer, who was not injured, has been placed on critical incident leave, which is standard procedure in such cases, and the investigation has been handed over to the Regional Major Crimes Team, according to the statement.
