Letter: Not so beautiful anymore

By Ward Upson, Vancouver

Surely, “America the Beautiful” is one of our country’s finest patriotic songs. The words were written in 1895.

But now, more than a hundred years later, we have violent gangs of white nationalists parading, torch-carrying neo-Nazis, perpetrating horrific violence against Jews and carrying out acts of racial prejudice, and so it goes. Sadly, our once great America is not so beautiful anymore.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
