Clark Public Utilities warns of scam calls

Scammers, falsifying their caller ID information, are calling customers and demanding payment on pain of cutting electrical power, according to Clark Public Utilities.

The utility said scammers lately are targeting small businesses. The grifters told their marks to pay off bills with a prepaid debit card, and the crooks manipulated caller IDs to appear as though they called using the utility’s number.

Demands of payment with a prepaid debit card are almost always a sign of a scam.

The utility said anyone who gets a call threatening immediate disconnection if a payment isn’t made should hang up and call the utility at 360-992-3000.

Utility staff are available 24/7, and can check customers’ account status.
