A Vancouver woman who works as a nurse in Portland faces federal drug-trafficking charges.

Rene Elene Griffin Nunn, 59, appeared Thursday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jolie A. Russo in U.S. District Court in Oregon on a one-count indictment alleging she conspired to distribute controlled substances.

“The indictment also alleges that between September 2017 and January 2018 Nunn communicated with others about the price and quantity of methamphetamine and heroin,” according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon.

In February, Nunn drove from Vancouver to Portland with about 93 grams of heroin in her purse, according to federal prosecutors.

It was revealed during her Thursday court hearing that Nunn is a registered nurse employed at Adventist Medical Center in Portland.

She was released pending a three-day jury trial set for Jan. 29. She faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, $1 million fine and three years of supervised release.

The Drug Enforcement Administration investigated Nunn’s alleged crimes.
