Letter: Speak out against asphalt plant

The Clark County Council is currently working on the freight rail dependent uses project, which would allow for industrial development along the Chelatchie Prairie Railroad.

The current manifestation of the project involves building an asphalt plant in the heart of Brush Prairie agricultural lands along the rail tracks near Northeast Laurin Road. The asphalt plant would use the train to haul its cargo up and down the short-line tracks.

Brush Prairie has spoken loudly to the council that we do not want an asphalt plant in our backyards. It will destroy our property values and compromise our environment. Unfortunately, our voices are not being heard.

The county council needs to hear our voices raised against this project. Write to your councilors. Tell them no asphalt plant in our neighborhood. If they don’t listen, vote them out in November.
