Washington State Patrol troopers and Portland Police Bureau officers are investigating a Tuesday night crash on the Interstate 5 Bridge.
Both agencies were dispatched about 10:45 p.m. to the southbound lanes of the freeway, according to a Portland Police Bureau news release.
The officers and medics who responded to the scene found a man lying on the roadway, suffering from serious injuries, police said. He was taken to a hospital with what were believed to be life-threatening injuries.
Law enforcement has not identified the man, whose injuries prompted a traffic investigation by the Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team.
A preliminary investigation suggests the man was driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the southbound lanes when he crashed into a Nissan Sentra that had slowed for traffic congestion in a construction zone. The area where the crash happened had been reduced to a single lane because of the construction, the news release states.
The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and cooperated with police. There have been no citations or arrests, police said.
At this time, intoxication is believed to be a factor in the crash, police said.
