Letter: A request to all politicians

If you are running for an elected office, or if you hold an elected office, I am begging you to set aside your “-ism.” “-Isms” are killing us. Opinion-based, ancestor-based, faith-based, anger-based, and greed-based models of reality spawn horrible, divisive, deadly laws. Tell your tribe to go sit temporarily in the corner for a while and, instead, send your people to collect evidence. Evidence-based lawmaking is the only adult way to behave as an elected official. Yes, it is harder. If it were easy, there would be no heroes.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
