The National Weather Service has issued its first freezing warning of the season for Clark County’s northern half.

The freezing warning went into effect at 3 a.m. and will remain in place until 9 a.m.

Frosty conditions were forecasted for Battle Ground, Hockinson, Salmon Creek, Woodland and Longview, as well as some Cowlitz County communities such as Kalama, Kelso and Castle Rock, according to the weather service.

Temperatures in those areas were expected to dip as low as 30 degrees. Areas exposed to eastern winds, like Vancouver, experienced overnight lows in the 40s and 50s.

“Freezing temperatures could kill sensitive vegetation and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing,” the freezing warning says.

Later Monday, the temperature in Vancouver will reach as high as 73 degrees. Overnight on Tuesday, in the area around the city, patchy fog will appear around 3 a.m. accompanied by a low of around 38 degrees.

This pattern of patchy fog in the night followed by sunny skies and daytime temperatures in the 70s is forecasted through at least Friday.
