Letter: Vote against Initiative 1639

By Linda Franklin, Camas
Published: October 17, 2018, 6:00am

The Initiative 1639 bill states safe storage of firearms will save lives. It’s possible the reverse will happen. Bad guys can now break in without fear of being confronted due to this bill.

It discriminates against home owners who want personal protection. The elderly and single women will be especially vulnerable. Time is of the essence — they can’t run to the safe to retrieve a firearm.

If you have children, act responsibly on your own. Don’t let billionaires, including Steve Ballmer and Nick Hanauer, ram this bill down your throat. They buy their own protection.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
