Letter: What? Questions need answers

I have been saying “What?” since the last election. The shock and awe of alternate facts, “lies,” the people who are now in charge of our institutions and the leaders who are now loved, tax cuts once again when we run a deficit — what?

This is what I know:

1. If you own it, you must take care of it. Roads, bridges — Washingtonians have seen the studies and need for a new bridge with light rail for years.

2. The Affordable Care Act is good, and having access to an exchange to shop and compare providers was an advantage. Having preventive care — checkups — is crucial to minimize the pre-existing problems that come from age. A minimum standard covered major medical and preventive care. Eighty cents of every dollar I spent on insurance was mandated to go for my care. If you gambled on my dime, “freeloader,” you got charged and that money helped the needy.

3. Twenty-three states of 50 teach reproductive science. If the youth have an understanding of the power of hormones, maybe women’s rights and abortion would not be a lead issue. Romeo and Juliet were supposed to be teens.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
