The pervasiveness of firearm-related deaths and injuries is cause for serious concern. As we see communities rally for change, we’re also learning that instances of gun violence are often preventable. That’s why I’ll vote “yes” on Initiative 1639, “Safe Schools, Safe Communities.”
We need to take action to prevent gun violence before it happens, and there are steps we can take. I-1639 includes measures such as enhanced background checks, a reasonable waiting period, and firearm safety training in order to purchase a semiautomatic rifle, all steps that promote responsible gun ownership. Our children, communities, and towns across Washington deserve to be safe.
Vote “yes” on I-1639.
