Vancouver police responded to a robbery early Wednesday in which the suspect allegedly attempted to steal cigarettes before punching a convenience store clerk.

Officers were dispatched about 1:50 a.m. to 7-Eleven, 4500 N.E. St. Johns Road, for a report of a strong-arm robbery that had just occurred.

When police arrived, the clerk reported the assault and attempted theft, Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said in an email.

Kapp did not provide the gender or a description of the suspect, who reportedly fled in a silver or gold Toyota 4Runner.

“The vehicle and the suspect were not located,” she said.

The clerk reportedly suffered a minor injury to his wrist, apparently during a struggle over the cigarettes.
