How Clark County college football players fared, Oct. 27

By Micah Rice, Columbian Sports Editor

In his first start as a Pac-12 quarterback, Jack Colletto got battered and benched.

Then, he got the win.

Colletto, a sophomore from Camas, started for Oregon State on Saturday at Colorado in place of injured Conor Blount.

Things didn’t go well, initially. With his offensive line offering scant protection, Colletto was sacked five times and held to 35 yards passing. At halftime, Oregon State trailed 24-3.

Though Jake Luton came in to play the second half, Colletto stayed involved. He re-entered the game in goal-line situations, rushing for a 2-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

Oregon State chipped away, eventually tying the game at 34 and forcing overtime.

In the extra period, Colletto again was called upon for a crucial play. Facing third and goal, Colletto scored from 1-yard out.

Oregon State’s defense held, securing the program’s first road win since 2014.

“I love him getting in there and pounding the rock on the goal line,” Luton said of Colletto. “I think I might be more excited for him than he is for himself. I love it and he did a great job today and I think us switching back and forth provided a great spark for the team.”
